Muscadet vs Oysters!!

Muscadet vs Oysters!!

We always say that the best pairing for Oyster is Muscadet. I can tell you it is true! But it exists hundred types of Oysters and a lot of different types of Muscadet!

Today, I will give you some clue to pair Oyster and Muscadet. Actually it is not very complicated, but you have to open the oysters… pay attention to don’t hurt you. If you don’t know ask a professional to do it.

The best season to eat oysters in our Area is from September until April. Oysters are in reproduction during summer and are more milky.

I have to say my favorite oysters come from France even if I also really like the Blue point Produced in the Maine in USA. Those one will pair nicely with a young Muscadet like our Chateau Oiselinière 2014; a good balance between acidity and salinity. It will be a good wine to have with some Marennes d’Oléron; oysters grown in the north of Bordeaux in France.

In France the most well-known are coming from Brittany, Charentes or Aquitaine. All those regions are situated on the west coast, near the Atlantic Ocean.

In Brittany, the Prat Ar Coum (Brittan name) are small oysters with a very nutty taste. With it I will advise to take a Muscadet a bit rounder like Comte Leloup de Chasseloir.

With it you can also have a dozen of Belon Oysters. They grow were the River meet the Atlantic Ocean in the far west part of Brittany.

I wish you all a beautiful and successful 2016, I will come back with many more pairings!
